Vefalı Galip
101-year-old Galip Haktanır is a living witness to a life spanning over a century, a legendary footballer nicknamed "Blind Galip" after a piece of shrapnel from the War of Independence. After losing his father at a young age, Galip began playing football at Darüşşafaka. His success on the school team in 1930s Turkey quickly led to transfers to the youth teams of giants like Beşiktaş, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahçe. Upon graduating from high school, his path crossed with Vefa, and he became Vefalı Galip. His sportsmanship, fighting spirit, and stance against injustice made him an icon in the football community. He was principled and uncompromising; despite the injustice he suffered at the 1948 Olympics, he remained steadfast in his stance. In addition to playing football, he also worked as a teacher and coach. His unique story, stretching from the War of Independence to the present day, is also a reflection of Türkiye's collective memory. Galip Haktanır's wit, unwavering sportsmanship, and unparalleled memory transport the viewer to a century of Turkish history in this documentary. "Vefalı Galip" tells the timeless story of perpetually being a "Grand Vizier," of resilience, and of principle.
