Kulüp

Kulüp(The Club) is a 2021 Turkish original internet series of the drama genre, produced by O3 Medya and directed by the duo Seren Yüce and Zeynep Günay. The series focuses on events in the lives of Matilda, a Sephardic Jew, and her daughter Raşel, in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul during the 1950s. The show has been discussed on various platforms for its portrayal of the Jewish community in Turkey outside of stereotypes and for creating a space to confront history. It also gained attention for giving a broad segment of Turkish society the chance to hear Ladino, a language that is at risk of extinction. The script for the O3 Medya production was inspired by the life of Rana Denizer's family and was written by the trio of Aysin Akbulut, Rana Denizer, and Necati Şahin. The cast includes Gökçe Bahadır, Barış Arduç, Asude Kalebek, Salih Bademci, Fırat Tanış, and Metin Akdülger. Filming took place in Istanbul around İstiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu. In scenes that reflect the life of the Turkish Jewish community of that era, about 50 people who speak Ladino were cast. Experts on the Ladino language from the Turkish Jewish community served as consultants for the series. The first season was filmed as ten episodes. The first part of the season was released on the Netflix digital platform on November 5, 2021, and the second part on January 6, 2022.
